For every three people you meet in Raleigh, I can almost guarantee at least one of them is a transplant. Some love it, some don’t, and some probably don’t care much either. But this really is a beautiful city. I truly love it, and whenever I meet someone who recently moved here, I’m always excited to hear that they love it too.
Coming from the North, things are just different. You’re not going to find truly authentic hood Chinese food or a corner deli with the best late night munchie snacks. But you also won’t see someone dragging a lawn chair into the street in the middle of December during a snowstorm to save their parking spot after hours of shoveling. Good times.
You know, I genuinely appreciated the people on my block who understood the code and lived by it. If someone spent hours in the cold digging their car out, it was only right that the spot was theirs when they got back from work. Yes, work. Even when there were ten inches of snow and black ice covering the roads. That is something I definitely don’t miss. These days, I’m grateful schools close at the thought of one inch of snow. It saves me the trip of having to drop my daughter off.
Anyways, my friend Marc traded the New York life for the Raleigh experience and couldn’t be happier. We took a few snapshots here for a song he’s working on that literally describes this season of life. We can’t wait to hear it.
